Global Halal Standards

IHIAS is a Global Halal Standard developed in accordance to guidelines accepted from ISO/IEC (the International Organization for Standardization/ the International Electro technical Commission), Guidelines for International Standards Development, while adhering to WTO-TBT (World Trade Organisation-Technical Barriers to Trade) Code of Good Practice for Standards Development.

The work of preparing IHIAS is carried through IHI Alliance technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject established by a technical committee has the right to be represented on that committee. International organisations (governmental and non-governmental), industry players, and Shari’ah experts (in liaison with IHI Alliance) have also taken part in the standards development thus far.

The main task of technical committees is to prepare international halal standards. Draft IHIAS prepared by technical committees were circulated amongst stakeholders for comment. Publication as a final IHIAS requires approval by the IHI Alliance Shari’ah Board and Standards Management Board.
